Tong Liao No.5 Senior High School, Inner Mongolia, China I. Introduction
Tong Liao No.5 Senior High School is located in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China. The school was established in 1963 and has been growing steadily since then. Our school has 478 academic staff that includes 6 special-class teachers, 2 high-technology specialists and 155 senior teachers.
Our school boasts of 90 modern high-tech classrooms and has a total number of 6500 students. Tong Liao No.5 Senior High School is vast, covering an area of 202 acres of land of which72664 square meters has been fully developed. The school’s architectural design is high class and virtually one of the best in China. For this reason, the school was identified as Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region’s Key Senior High School in the areas of national culture and ideological development.
Since the establishment of the school, the spirit of people-centeredness and the pursuit of excellence have been the key educational philosophy. Our school vigorously promotes the spirit of “self-discipline and self-improvement”. This motto is the driving force behind the school’s steady rise and uniqueness. Our school’s culture is deep and far-reaching. Management style is scientific and of high standards. Academically, the school always puts much emphasis on Science Education and Mental Health Education. Over the years, tremendous achievements and great strides have been made in modernizing the school and opening up to foreign exchange programs.
In 2002, the school was authorized to hire foreign teachers and since then has engaged teachers from the United States, Canada, Zambia just to mention a few. In 2003, the school hosted a successful summer camp for high school students from the USA and from 2004, a great number of teachers have been sent to the United Kingdom, Korea and Australia to pursue advanced studies. Our school has ambitious plans in terms of international cooperation.
In October 2005, the school president, Mr. Liu Feng was as delegate in a team of officials from the Ministry of Education that went to France for an educational conference. In 2007, the Office of the State Council approved and allowed the school to be the base for international exchange programs and since then, exchanges and agreements have been enforced with schools and universities like Karen High School in New South Wales, Australia, and Mongolia 23rd Languages School in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Gauss Reading UK High School. Our school is in the driving force of encouraging teachers and students get the best and latest education.
In 2010, 10 students from our school were sent to Japan to participate in the "twenty-first century Great East Asian Youth Exchange Program". From 2011 to 2020, our school plans to send teachers in batches of 10 abroad for further training. Since 2008, the school has recruited dozens of foreign students mostly from the republic of Mongolia and will continue doing so.
After many years of hard work, commitment and openness, Tong Liao No.5 Senor High School, has attained a lot of valuable experience in international exchange, cooperation, education and management. The school will always be committed and aim high in the development of education both in China and abroad.
II. Conditions for Enrollment
1. Minimum number of applicants from a region: applicants from abroad between 20-30 students;
2. Requirements: The recommended age is between: 13-17, and the conditions are: good health, good grades and good behavior;
3. Applicants that have been accepted will be notified after all the relevant procedures have been finalized.
III. Arrangements and Academic Curriculum
1. Length of schooling: The length of study is 3 years;
2. Academic curriculum:
The first year: Students will be required to study Chinese, English, Music, P.E and will have an Art class;
The second year: Apart from the first year subjects, students will also study Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, and History;
The third year: Students will be fused in the first grade Chinese class and will follow Chinese government curriculum.
Remark: Upon completion of the three years of study, they will receive certification from the Chinese government. The school will also help the students apply for China’s universities according to their HSK scores (Standard Chinese Government Rating System). Individual students willing to continue studying in the fourth year will be integrated in the grade 2 mainstream Chinese classes after writing and passing an examination.
3. Activities:
Foreign students will participate in all school activities such as, morning and afternoon physical practice, public activities, cultural and tourism activities, sports activities, holiday parties and many more. This is intended to help them strengthen their body health.
IV. Requirements and procedure for Enrollment
1. Foreign Students: Visit our school website, and download the application form named “Application Form for Foreign Students”. Then complete the following enrollment requirements;
1.1 Student's passports, parents' passports, and two current two inches photos scanned and should be sent to the school email address;
1.2 Applicants should use English or Chinese to fill in the form and then send it to the school email address;
1.3 For students who are less than 18, parents should liaise with the school so that a teacher from the school would be designated as a guardian;
1.4 Students should send the following materials to the school email: police clearance report, academic certificate or proof of educational background from their previous schools.
1.5 To get in touch with the school, applicants can either post or email the above materials to the school;
2. Foreign Students Living in China Enrollment Procedure
2.1 Students can get the “Application Form for Foreign Students " in the International Department, Tong Liao No.5 Senior High School, or download it from the school website;

VI. Charging Standards (per annum)
1. Sundry fees: 20000RMB (twenty thousands), includes tuition fee, insurance expenses, school uniform fee, accommodation fee, accommodation supplies fee;
2. Enrollment fee: 400RMB;
3. School textbook fee: 1000RMB (per annum)
4. Medical test fee: 239RMB (per annum)
5. Photos for residence permit and residence permit fee: 830 RMB (per annum)

VII. Acceptance Requirements:
1. Foreign students who have been accepted will be required to pay 10000 RMB tuition fee and other incidental expenses before the beginning of the term.
2. Please take note that applicants should fulfill and satisfy the above conditions for quicker processing of their applications.
3. Please take note that after one month’s commencement of the term, students that transfer to other schools or violate school regulations will be expelled and there will be no refund.
VIII. Scholarship
30% of outstanding students will receive monetary scholarships in different amounts.
